"Sire, the construct you see before you is the final design of the new weapon of war we have worked so tirelessly to bring to fruition. We simply call it, Revenance"
—Unknown Adeptus Mechanicus, addressing the Fabricator-General of Mars during a routine inspection of the design phase of the Revenance Missile

Overview[]

The Revenance Missile is a large missile weapon designed to be carried aboard the Indomitable-Class Dreadnought Battleship. The weapon is designed as a modular, two part weapon, with interchangeable warheads that can bring different levels of destruction to a myriad assortment of targets, whether it be a shrapnel warhead that can dismember hundreds of ground troops, or a nuclear warhead that can blast apart entire Ork Warships ( or what pass for warships in greenskin lexicon ), and everything in between. This level of flexibility allows Indomitable to rapidly take down an large variety of opponents that would otherwise prove difficult to defeat.

Origins and History[]

The Revenance was created to fit within the Vertical Missile Launch Tubes of the Indomitable-Class Dreadnought Battleship. The Adeptus Mechanicus created an entirely new design to go by, since no existing weapon was adequate for the intended role as a multi-task weapon. The design process started in 299.005.M31, and the model was ready for mass production 338.008.M31, with mass production commencing just One Solar month later. During the entire process, more than 118 designs were evaluated by the Adeptus Mechanicus, each one coming under the intense scrutiny of the Fabricator-General of Mars himself. While there was immense financial expenditure and heavy loss of life during the testing of the various designs and the warheads to be carried aboard, the resulting weapon was quite powerful, and became one of the mainstays and one of the most reliable tools of the Indomitable's arsenal.

Size and Specifics[]

The Revenance can vary in length and weight, from 15 meters in length and weighing around 9,400 pounds with the smaller warheads, all the way up to 19 meters in length and 14,800 pounds with the monstrous 35-Megaton Finality warhead. However, the Revenance has a set diameter of 2.5 meters, with propulsion unit being 8 meters in length, and the guidance unit being 4 meters in length. The Revenance can hit a top speed of around 12,800 km/h in an atmosphere, thanks to its unique bullet shape, a maximum thrust of 1400 Kilonewtons, and intricate surfaces capable of redirecting atmospheric gases around the missile to create pressure zones that allow the missile to simply slip through the air. In a vaccuum, the Revenance can hit speeds far in excess of 30,000 km/h. The Revenance boasts a fairly long range in excess of 5,500 kilometers in an atmosphere, and more than three times that in a vacuum. The guidance system is also pinpoint, with over two dozen sensors within that 4 meter length of missile allowing for precision hits on either a tightly packed group of greenskins, or a shot onto a vulnerable Void Shield Generator. That being said, heavy local interference or targeted jamming attacks will cause the sensors to malfunction and throw the missile off course ( there have even been incidents where the missile has looped back onto the ship that had fired it, causing either severe damage or destroying the ship outright ).

Flavors and Firepower: Standard, Nuclear, and Anti-Ship[]

As stated earlier, the Revenance has interchangeable warheads that allow the user to adapt to a specific target. The warheads come in 6 distinct flavors: Standard, Anti-Ship, Anti-Air, Anti-Ground, Anti-Personnel, and Nuclear, with a total of 18 different warheads that can be used by the wielder. The Standard Warhead and the Nuclear Warhead come in three different sizes, with the largest of each being capable of demolishing anything between Frigates and Light Cruisers. There are, however, dedicated Anti-Ship Warheads to use as well. The first Anti-Ship Warhead is similar to the mid-range-yield Standard warhead, but it has a much denser penetrator and a longer delay fuse that allows it to penetrate through much thicker armor plate, equivalent to armor found on standard Imperial Cruisers. The second Warhead has a far shorter delay, which means lower armor penetration, but uses a rather large Melta Charge in place of the standard explosive, which grants it extreme lethality against exposed generators and superstructure armor, as well as Tyranid Bio-Ships. The final Anti-Ship Warhead is a 50 Gigawatt Ion Burst Charge that can knock out a ship's engines and electrical components with extreme efficiency.

Flavors and Firepower: Anti-Air, Anti-Ground, and Anti-Personnel[]

These three Warheads are by far the most relatable of the set, as they have a lot in common with each other. The first AA, Anti-Personnel, and Anti-Ground Warhead are all the same. They are all cluster missiles, carrying a total of 18 missiles in a 6 x 3 Hexagon configuration, with minor differences in the individual warheads that each of the larger warheads carries, based up on their intended role. The rest of the warheads, however, are unique to each role. The second AA warhead releases a massive cloud of shrapnel, and the third warhead launches a large radius Ion blast similar to the third Anti-Ship missile, but with a larger radius and lower energy output. The second Anti-Ground warhead is a lethal Bunker Buster designed to be capable of penetrating even the deepest of bunkers, thanks to it's extremely dense drill-type penetrator. The Third Anti-Ground Warhead is an Earthshaker warhead designed to penetrate into the ground near a fault-line within a planet's surface and trigger a colossal tremor. The second Anti-Personnel Warhead releases the same virus used in exterminatus actions against a large group of enemies, and while the quantity of the virus is far smaller, it is still enough to turn a group of enemies into a liquid mush within mere moments. The Third Anti-Personnel Warhead is by far the most unique, being specifically designed to destroy Necron forces. It works by releasing a cloud of powerful acid that can corrode their skin and utterly destroy their internal components.
